Why We Invested in Conduktor: Security and Control for Data Streaming

At Ansa, we have built a thesis in the growing importance of data streaming, including publicly sharing initial views on the space over a year ago. The value of data streaming has grown significantly in recent years  - organizations are increasingly finding streaming data as critical to operational improvement (e.g., inventory management) and product delivery (e.g., ride-sharing driver location). That work has culminated in our latest investment in Conduktor, an enterprise data management platform, alongside RTP, Accel, and M12.

Recent advancements in the ability to gather, process and analyze data have led to rapid growth in enterprise adoption of data streaming. The initial wave of that tooling began with Apache Kafka, an open source platform for processing streaming data effectively. Alongside Kafka, an entire ecosystem has formed, including platforms like Confluent, Red Panda, Aiven, Amazon MSK, and others, that have unlocked basic data streaming capabilities across enterprises.

As the usage of data streaming increases, enterprises have had to expand their data, engineering, and product capabilities further. Today’s central data teams are responsible for managing and enabling company-wide access to an increasingly interconnected web of data streams, data types, and Kafka clusters, each growing the complexity of managing a streaming data stack. That complexity creates a variety of security and compliance challenges - particularly if the ingested data contains PII or other sensitive data. With more product and engineering teams seeking to incorporate streaming data, the infrastructure costs associated with managing that data security scales, as do the costs associated with people and processes to ensure appropriate access and usage. In order to address those challenges, Conduktor has built a comprehensive platform enabling security, compliance and data self-service. Conduktor offers differentiated enterprise data management capabilities on Kafka to allow advanced data encryption, user access management, and self-service automation to solve challenges that can slow or even cripple an enterprise’s ability to fully utilize and grow its streaming data.

Enabling the Future of Real-Time Data

Led by Founders Nicolas Orban and Stéphane Derosiaux, Conduktor allows enterprises to scale their streaming data infrastructure rapidly without getting bogged down in manual security and compliance processes. The core platform today includes a baseline of data management, deployment, and automation solutions, with enterprise tiers including deep user access controls, monitoring solutions, and advanced security and encryption. The platform is used by enterprises like Cigna, Honda, and Capital Group, across a wide berth of industries, including technology, automotive, manufacturing, airlines, and consumer goods.

Conduktor’s platform sits as a proxy between a company’s applications and Kafka instances. It is agnostic to the Kafka provider at an enterprise and is central to broader streaming infrastructure, allowing control data streaming, encryption, and access - before it reaches the Kafka instance. That positioning also allows for functionality like self-service access for data teams, advanced workflow automation, and observability core to enterprise compliance policies.

Conduktor’s ability to unlock massive value for customers in data streaming aligns with Ansa’s core thesis: with the continued proliferation of data, we will require a whole new breed of streaming-specific tools to ensure operational excellence. Allan Jean-Baptiste, Ansa  explains, “Enterprises have struggled to scale their security and compliance while data streaming use cases and data sources have exponentially - Conduktor has a tremendous opportunity to resolve those challenges as data streaming evolves into a critical portion of all enterprise data stacks.”

Solving the challenges in security and compliance of real-time data is critical for enterprises to truly leverage the burgeoning amount of data they now have access to. Conduktor unlocks that data without compromising the oversight, security, and visibility expected of a modern data stack. Read more about Conduktor here. Visit Conduktor.io to discover more.
